Postmans UFC Vegas 52 Dog of the Week
CAIO BORRALHO! We ended the cold streak, and now we look to start a nice winning streak. Let’s get right into this thing.
Lando Vannata +115
Lando Vannata vs Charles Jourdain is going to be one hell of a fight! Call me crazy but I LOVE Lando down at 145, and I think he is going to be a real problem for a lot of guys. Jourdain is a very flashy striker who is not afraid of a fire fight. Lando Vannata is ALSO a very flashy striker who is not afraid of a fire fight. I think there are some key elements of this fight that, in my opinion, should favor Lando.
First, I think Lando is the much more complete mixed martial artist. On top of his striking technique his defense is also very good. He uses great movement and angles to get out of the way of shots. He typically fights with his hands down by his waist. This makes his strikes come from non-traditional angles and makes him a very difficult puzzle to solve. Although in his last fight against Mike Grundy, his featherweight debut, he fought in a more traditional hands up style. The hands down help with takedown defense as well, not that he will need it in this matchup. Another thing Lando has over Jourdain is the wrestling in his back pocket. He wrestled D-1 for a year and is a brown belt in BJJ. He is primarily a striker, but I always like when a fighter has wrestling to fall back on. Jourdain has OK takedown defense but even if Lando can’t get him down, I think the threat of the shot will open up the striking for him even more.
Now let’s talk about the stand up. As I mentioned both are very flashy strikers but have different styles and tendencies. Jourdain is very kick heavy and will through a variety of them. He mixes up head, body, legs very well. He also mixes in kicks well with his combos which will be important against a guy like Lando, who is very hard to find. He also is not shy about throwing wild techniques like jumping switch kicks, flying knees, etc. Jourdain keeps a very good pace and pressure throughout the fight. He has good cardio to keep that pace. One thing I don’t like about his striking is his defense. He has a high shell guard when taking strikes, which is good for protecting him from being hurt to the head, but it leaves his body wide open. With his body open I think Lando will be able to rip to the body, and if he chooses to, shoot a takedown off of his strikes. Lando uses a lot of movement and stance switches to give a variety of looks to his opponent. He has a very good kick game with a wide variety of kicks in his arsenal. Assuming Jordain is the one that will be doing the advancing more often I think Lando will be able to use his counter striking very effectively. Of the two on the feet, I believe Lando has the edge in terms of speed. Which is key for him with his striking style. Both guys have the ability to hurt each other, but both have shown the ability to take a shot and recover quickly. The power advantage leans ever so slightly to Jordain in my opinion.
Key Factors
Landos counter striking, mixed with movement and perceived speed advantage.
Threat of the takedown from Lando.
Jordains body will be open for Lando to abuse if he recognizes it.
Lando has the gas tank to match Jordains cardio.
Worrying Factors
Jordains aggression and unpredictability on the feet.
Jordains perceived power advantage.
3rd round Jordain IS A PROBLEM. If it’s 1-1 going into the 3rd, I’ll be nervous.
Interesting fact - Neither fighter has won 2 fights in a row in the UFC. That will change Saturday night. Unless there is a… DRAW (Jourdain has 1, Lando has 2).
After tape I personally lined this fight slightly on the Lando side. I think +115 is a fine number to play. I have 1.5u locked in on Lando.
Thank you as always for the continued support! And please ALWAYS bet responsibly and NEVER place a wager that you can’t afford to lose.
